As electrical appliances have become smaller and highly energy efficient, there has been increasing market demand for highly efficient electronic material products. To capitalize on this opportunity, Dongbu Fine Chemicals launched its Magnetic Powder Cores (MPC) business in 1999. Since then, the Company has become the second largest electronic materials provider in Korea with a 20% market share.

Dongbu Fine Chemicals¡¯ MPC products include Molypermalloy (MPP), Sendust High Flux and Iron Power Core (IPC), which are made of metal alloy powders such as nickel, steel, aluminum, silicon and molybdenum. Through their functional properties of automatic voltage control, power conservation and electromagnetic wave and noise reduction, these MPC products are the core parts in electricity supply equipment for electronic and telecommunication appliances. In February 2000, the Company opened a new MPC plant enabling production of more than one million tons of products per year. With this additional production facility, the Company could produce a total of 4.5 millions of MPC per month, which resulted in a dramatic sales increase.

Currently, the global MPC market totals ¡Ì 200 billion and domestic market amounts to ¡Ì 10 billion. As the usage of mobile phones, notebook computers, PCs, telecommunication transmitters and circuit components rapidly increases, the market is expected to record a five-fold growth by 2005. With such bright prospects, the Department will expand production of alloy powders and diversify products to include Mn powder, soft ferrite and powder for hard ferrite to capitalize on growth opportunities.
